This recipe from “Daly’s Bartenders’ Encyclopedia” (1903) by Tim Daly, is the earliest recorded version of a Tuxedo cocktail in a cocktail book. He calls for ‘Maple Gin’ to be used, but as there are none of these left (that we can find), we simply added a little Jake’s Maple Syrup to recreate the recipe, and it’s delicious.

Method

  1. 1

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass.

  2. 2

Stir ingredient together to dissolve the maple syrup  before adding ice.

  3. 3

Fill the mixing glass with ice, then stir to chill in gredients and add the perfect amount of dilution from  ice melt.

  4. 4

Strain into a cocktail glass and spray a twist of lemon  over the surface of the drink. Discard the lemon twist  rather than adding it to the drink.

  5. 5

    Finish with a maraschino cherry.
